Assam calls for exploring lush spread of tea gardens, cruise on the Brahmaputra River to the Kaziranga National Park, home of the one-horned rhinoceros.
Arunachal Pradesh blessed with a tranquil peace with Tawang Monastery. Nagaland epitomises quaint and rustiness especially in term of its road condition, no electricity etc. Most villages exudes as if one is stepping back in time, life pulsates at the same rhythm as at days of yore. Its nascent form, quaintness is its true charms. Potentially, this trip can be a pursuit of new life experience, especially if one is looking for “off the beaten one”.

Arrive at Guwahati airport and our representative will assist you in getting transferred to the hotel. On arrival, check-in to your hotel and stay overnight in the hotel.
Today we will proceed to Shillong, also called ‘Scotland of the East” (100 kms 3 hrs). While traveling, we see the majestic Umiam Lake (Barapani) surrounded by sylvan hills and wrapped in the beauty of an assortment of green Khasi-pines and the azure blue skies. On arrival at Shillong, check in at your hotel. Evening you can visit the local market. Overnight stay in Shillong.
Shillong hills oozes out with colonial charms with its churches, architectures, ambience etc. In the morning, visit Don Bosco Museum – a huge building showcasing regional cultures and tradition of various communities. After drive to Mawlynnong – dubbed as cleanest village in Asia, however we will take a tour to Dawki that border with Bangladesh. Along the course, we will traverse across bettle nut plantation and Broom grass. We can stop and interact with Khashi tribe and visit village. Also we can watch people harvesting beetle nuts and broom grass. Dawki is also name of river, we can take a short boat ride over azure Dawki river or watch people fishing. On arrival, take a evening stroll around Mawlynnong village. Overnight in Home stay.
Cherrapunji region catches world’s attention as wettest place on earth. Today, along the way, we will be doing lot of activities before we drop anchor for the night in Cherrpunji. After breakfast, first stop is at Nongrait for short hike to living root bridge. After a while landscape changes, thick tropical vegetation give way to granite and dwarf vegetation – typical moorish with perpetual cloud and rain so some call it “Scotland of East”. After visit Seven sister water fall, Mawsmai Limestone caves, old Presbyterian church and walk in village. Overnight in Cherrapunji.
Note: To visit double decker living root will take 1 extra day as it entails covering 3500 steps to reach one way so it can be one whole affair.
Today you will be transferred to Nameri National Park. Located on the banks of the Jia Bhoroli River and on the Assam-Arunachal border, it opened in Nov 1998 and is home to the white winged duck, Sambhar, Barking Deer, Hog Deer and Elephants. In the evening enjoy a show of Bihu Dance, the traditional and well known Assamese dance. Overnight in tented accommodation.
Early morning at about 6.00 am, head out on trek inside the National Park ( 2.5 hrs) .Enjoy the ecstatic view of Himalayan Foot Hills along with the rare treasure of its bird life & the eco system of Nameri National Park that has been the paradise for nature lovers. Return to your lodge for a hearty breakfast and go for an exclusive River Rafting on Jia Bhorali River (smooth water rafting) . After lunch cross the border into Arunachal Pradesh and commence an uphill drive to Bomdila and further 2 hrs away to Dirang (180 kms/5 hrs ) the land of Monpa tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. Dirang is famous for its apple orchards, sheep breeding farms and natural hot springs.drive to Dirang (180 kms / 05 hrs)- Enroute visit Tippi Orchid Centre and Sessa Orchid Sanctuary. Dirang is also ideal place for adventures like trekking and hiking. Overnight at Dirang.
After breakfast transfer to Tawang. On the way visit war cemetery. Continue with the drive till you reach Sela Pass at an altitude of 4114m / 13494 ft. It is famous for high altitude lakes & scenic beauty & is ideal for ice skating during winter. Check in the hotel on arrival. Overnight stay in Tawang.
Today visit the famous Tawang Monastery. The 300 year old Monastery, locally called “Gompa” is considered to be the oldest in India and second largest Monastery in Asia after Lhasa in Tibet. The Monastery stands on the spur of a hill over 12000 ft. above the sea level. It accommodates over 500 monks and houses priceless Buddhist texts and scriptures. The Tibetan influence here is unmistakable, with the elaborately painted wooden windows and other motifs
Thereafter, drive high above town to the high altitude lakes of Pangong Tang Tso (popularly known as PT Tso). This is an extremely scenic drive with bird’s eye view of the township below. Return in time for lunch. Post lunch enjoy the day at leisure. Walk into the town and do some shopping. Or you could go exploring on your own. You can visit the Craft Center and traditional Monpa Village. Dinner and overnight at Tawang.
After breakfast drive to Bomdila (230kms/6hrs), a place of misty mountains, lush forest, apple orchards and Buddhist monasteries. Bomdila , trhe district HQ of the West Kameng district, it situated at a height of 2,530m. Catch up on the sights you might have missed out before. Arrive Bomdila and enjoy lunch after your scenic ride. Rest of the day at leisure. Experience the local flavour – head out on walks and interact with the locals to enhance your experience. Return to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Bomdila.
After breakfast drive down to Kaziranga National Park (2.5 hrs). Enroute stop at Tezpur. Visit some of the ancient temples and monuments steeped in mythology, legend and folklore on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra. Tezpur has magnificent scenic beauty and exquisite archaeological ruins of 5th -6th century. Proceed along to Kaziranga National Park. The oldest park in Assam, it covers an area of 430 Sq kms along the river Brahmaputra on the North and the Karbi Anglong hills on the South. A world heritage site, Kaziranga is one of the last areas in eastern India undisturbed by a human presence. Inhabited by the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds, the landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes & shallow pools. Overnight in Kaziranga in a lodge.
Early morning explore Western Zone of Kaziranga National Park on back of elephant. Apart from world’s endangered One-horned Rhinoceros, the Park sustains half the world’s population of genetically pure Wild Water Buffaloes, over 1000 Wild elephants and perhaps the densest population of Royal Bengal Tigers anywhere. Kaziranga is also a bird watcher’s paradise and home to some 500 species of birds. The Crested Serpent Eagle, Palla’s Fishing Eagle, Greyheaded Fishing Eagle, Swamp Partridge, Bar-headed goose, whistling Teal, Bengal Florican, Storks, Herons and Pelicans are some of the species found here. We will return to the resort for breakfast. Afternoon we have arranged a jeep safari through the Central Zone of the National Park. Evening come back to the resort. Overnight stay at the resort.
Morning we drive to Kohima. Kohima is derived from the word “Kew Hi Ma” which means the men of the land where the flower Kew Hi grows. Situated at an altitude of 1444 m above sea level, Kohima is the Capital of Nagaland. Overnight in Kohima.
After Breakfast Visit Angami Tribal village of Khonoma, home village of father of Naga Nationalist movement Angami Phizo. This village located on top of a hillock has a pastoral beauty of its own. This was where the Last part of the Anglo Naga War was fought.
Return Kohima and Visit the World War II Cemetery, nestled in the heart of Kohima town, where one of the fiercest battles was fought. On a huge stone of in-laid bronze the following famous words are there to remind one of undoubting courage displayed by the war heroes in order to preserve the freedom of the future generation. “When you go home… Tell them of us and say For your Tomorrow We gave our today”. Also visit State Museum, located at Bayani hill Kohima. It gives you a peep into the various aspects of Naga Culture. It displays dioramas of the lifestyle of the Naga tribes. Artifacts, handlooms, Handicrafts, Tools and Implements, Gems and Jewellery, Coins and Ancient weaponry will give you an idea of the rich culture and heritage of the native people. Overnight in Kohima.
Early in the morning, we will drive to Jorhat, the tea capital of Assam. On arrival at Jorhat, you will be accommodated in the Thengal Mansion, a historic ancestral house of a Tea Planter amidst an Asssamese village, 15 kms from Jorhat. The 72-year old Thangal Mansion is to answer the queries on Assamese culture and tradition. After lunch and rest, take a walk in a nearby village to see the simplicity of their lives.
Early morning drive to Majuli the biggest River Island in the world and seat of Baishnavite monasteries. You will cross-mighty Brahmaputra on a ferry to reach this historic Island. Afternoon visit, Uttar Kamalabari Satra to witness Kamlabari Satra priests perform a powerful chant and melody called Gayan Bayan, meant to bring the priests into a trance-like state of prayer. Here you’ll also see how the priests live and learn about their Neo-Vaishnavite faith. Enjoy a private performance called Mukha Bhavana, an authentic Majuli Satriya Natya (play), where masks are used by actors to enact an episode from the epic Ramayana. The scene is set in a forest from where Sita is abducted by the demon King Ravan and then the battle fought by Ram, helped by Hunuman and his monkey warriors, to rescue her. Return to your lodge for night stay.
Today, we will explore the rest of the important sites of Majuli covering Natun Samaguri Satra ( Shamaguri Satra is a unique feature of Vaishnavism in Assam . Shamaguri is not only a hub of art, cultural and classical studies but is also famous for its unique art of mask making). Afternoon we will take you to Salmara Village to show the Art of Pottery Making (Pottery in Majuli is probably the single most important heritage of all. The potter’s wheel has not found its way till date. Pots are made with hand from beaten clay and burnt in driftwood fired kilns. Archeologists opine this to be a missing link between Mohenjodaro & Harappan civilization). The day would come to an end with a visit to Mishing Village of the Mishying Tribes (Mishyings are a plains tribe who prefer to have their settlements next to the Brahmaputra River. They are of the Arunachal hill tribe origin especially of the Adi tribes of the Abor hills of Arunachal Pradesh). Overnight stay at Majuli.
Early morning drive to Guwahati. On arrival check in to your hotel. In the evening set out on a River cruise to watch the sun go down the Brahmaputra River and see yourself why the river is locally called ‘Luit’- colour of blood. Overnight at hotel.
